Ryan McCollum
Hi, I'm Ryan! I am the Founder / Managing Member of Focused Pathways, as well as a Relationship and Certified Master Mindset Coach.
I help engaged couples prepare for marriage, and married couples to improve their relationships. I assist parents through the process of choosing and using various parenting styles. I help Clients reduce and manage undesired emotions like stress, by helping them recognize and repair unproductive thought patterns, irrational underlying beliefs, and unproductive behaviors, resulting in the outcomes they want.

My Story
I would have to say my coaching journey, before I even realized what it was, began as a Master Resilience Assistant in the Army. If you are unfamiliar with the Master Resilience Training (MRT) program, that's ok. It was basically an initiative by the US Army in partnership with Penn State Department of Positive Psychology to provide Soldiers, DA, and DOD Members (as well as their dependents), with resilience skills in hopes of undermining feelings of hopelessness and helplessness, which were lending themselves to an incredible suicide rate at the time. As a young Licensed Nurse and Medical Sergeant, I immediately saw the value of the program, and volunteered to continue my education, to become a Master Resilience Trainer.
I personally have lost people I care about. If you or someone you know is contemplating suicide, do NOT leave them alone. At the very least, call The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at (800) 273-8255. Let's work together before it reaches that point!
As I make my long story short, I went on to graduate from Seminary with a Master of Divinity, which included training in pastoral counseling. The Solution Focused approach we were taught, couples powerfully with the Resilience Training I received before. I served as a Pastor for a few years, and continued my 15 year military career, to now serve the Troops and their Families as a Chaplain in addition to coaching civilians. My ideal Clients are those who also have a desire to support the troops, by being flexible with scheduling when the need arises.
It is also while I was in Seminary, that I was certified by Prepare/Enrich to provide Pre-marital, Marital, and Family Coaching. The Pre-marital Coaching qualifies in most states as the Pre-marital Counseling requirement. The tools I have can significantly help improve the likelihood of marital success during the preparatory stages, and improve the quality of the marriage typically between 30-70%, according to the research. Going through the Coaching once a year (about 6 hours) is a valuable way of deliberately maintaining your marriage and family relationships!
Education
I continued to further my education through Transformation Academy, to become a better Coach. I built upon my background of Solution Focused Coaching and Master Resilience Training (105 hours), to add certifications in Cognitive Behavioral Training (CBT) and Rational Emotive Behavioral Training (REBT), and more. At the time of writing, I have approximately 95 Credit Hours from Transformation Academy, in addition to the hours put in for Master Resilience Assistant, Master Resilience Trainer, and the 153 Semester Hours spent earning my Master Degree. Basically, I work with Clients to find the solutions they need, for desired outcomes they want, by helping them sort out emotions, repair distorted thought patterns and irrational beliefs (sounds harsh but we all have them!), and achieve more supportive and productive behaviors.
Well, I think that's about all for now. I am not the type of person who typically drones on about themselves, so . . . let's connect so that I can get to know you and discern how I can help. Free 30 Minute Breakthrough Sessions are available via Zoom. If you still have questions, let me know—I'm here for you!
Looking Forward,
Ryan
